IAIN DOWIE was left to rue the moment of madness that sent Palace sliding towards another disappointing result.
Nick Chadwick took advantage of sloppy defending to give Plymouth the lead with the Championship's fastest goal of the season after just 12 seconds.
Andy Johnson hit a post for Palace in the first half but Tony Capaldi sealed the points for the hosts with a last minute strike.
DOWIE said: "When you concede a goal straight from kick off it's madness.
"We knew exactly what they were going to do, we talked about it and we didn't switch on and we've got to start keeping clean sheets if we are going to win games.
"The goal in the first minute loses the game for us, I've got no doubts about that.
"It was never a 2-0 but when you are 1-0 down after the first kick of the game, against a team near the bottom of the league they can then camp in.
"We had untold possession but fair credit to them they got players behind the ball, that's their prerogative, and it was up to us to get past them.
"We two good chances and if either of those had gone in it could have been a different game. You are looking to get a break."
